This is an original example of Communism in Germany, sub-titled The Truth about the Communist Conspiracy on the Eve of the 1933 Revolution. It is a 1933 book focussing on the powerful and popular Communist Party on the eve of Adolf Hitler's ascension to power, a look at Soviet and Weimar realities from the Nazi perspective.
This is the English language version of the German book Bewaffneter Aufstand! (Armed Revolt!) which was published by Eckart-Verlag in 1933. This 1933 English translation was published by the General League of German Anti-Communist Associations.
This early Nazi book has revelations about Communist attempts to undo the National Socialist movement in Germany before and after the Nazi election successes in 1933. The text explains the Communist system and the history of the Communist movement all over Germany between 1918 to 1933, their recruiting efforts as well as their violent tactics against National Socialists. There are comprehensive membership and murder statistics.
The illustrations include historic German election posters, prominent KPD members, Communist lapel pins and armbands, street battles between Communists and Nazi Party members, confiscated weapons and explosives at Communist offices, SA demonstrations in front of the Karl-Liebknecht-Haus in Berlin, the burned out Reichstag in Berlin, etc.
This is an original 1933 book, NOT a modern reprint. It was once part of the Library of George Washington University and the title page also has a Carnegie Endowment for International Peace library stamp dated 30 October 1933.
The original 6-½ x 9-½ inch softcover book is mounted inside a PhotoMount Pamphlet Binder patented by Gaylord Brothers of Syracuse NY (shown left).
Communism in Germany was written by Adolf Ehrt, a sociologist who wrote several anti-communist books in the 1930s and fought the godless, marxist-communist movement in the German press. During World War II he involved in the Economic Staff East of the OKW.
Some of photos are quite graphic and show victims of Communist aggression in Germany. Murdered cops and National Socialists, SA men including Nazi martyr Horst Wessel and Albrecht Höhler, the tattooed man who murdered him (above). Young HJ-member Herbert Norkus who became the subject of a bestselling Nazi book and 1933 UFA film Hitlerjunge Quex, is also pictured.
The condition is poor. There are some loose pages, page 165 has two old tape repairs and there is wear to the original book cover and the extra chipboard cover. No odor.
The striking cover design is by Hans Martin Tibor and shows the burning Reichstag or parliament building in Berlin and armed Communists. See picture near the top of this USMBOOKS web page.
