Tausend Antworten des praktischen Wissens means “Thousand Answers of Practical Knowledge” and this 5 x 7-1/8 inch illustrated hardcover book has 208 pages filled with very useful, often obscure information for every citizen in Adolf Hitler’s Germany. The subtitle translates as “a companion for practical thinking people”.

It starts with the lyrics to the Deutschlandlied (Deutschland, Deutschland über Alles) and the Nazi ‘anthem’ the Horst-Wessel-Lied. This is followed by chapters on domestic and foreign mail, the Postal Bank Account, traveling by railroad, insurance, last will and testament, unemployment compensation for women after marriage (when women were supposed to leave the labor market and have children), money while traveling abroad, license plates, car accidents, the population of large and small German cities, degrees in Celsius, Réaumur and Fahrenheit, German paper sizes, the German government, Nazi Party addresses, German embassies and consulates, the German Chancellor, organization of the RKK and DAF, World War I and the Versailles Treaty, ranks in the RAD, Army, Navy, SA and Hitler Youth, the human body, the highest mountains, longest rivers and biggest seas in the world, the SA and HJ sport awards, sport records, the Deutsche Lebens-Rettungs-Gesellschaft eV or German Life Saving Association Registered Society (DLRG), morse code and much, much more practical information.

The entire book is written in plain but easily understood German and the minutia in it can not be found in any other single book we know of!

This is a very nice, little-used 7th edition of “Thousand Answers” published by Paul Hermann for Kurt Arnholdt Verlag of Stuttgart. It has a tight spine and no offensive odor. A must for researchers, authors and historians!
