RARE 1940 COLOR ILLUSTRATED NAZI SCHOOL BOOK

Jung-Deutschland Fibel is a hardcover picture book produced to teach young German children the alphabet, letter combinations, counting and how to use words in a sentence. It has 94 pages and many colorful illustrations by Walter Schröder. They depict young children playing, pets, mothers and children, marching soldiers with swastika flags, toys, gypsies, trains, elephants and monkeys in the zoo, an airshow, SA troops, chimney sweeps, HJ boys at a Heimabend or educational evening gathering (shown left), WHW charity collections, Eintopfsonntag (simple one pot meals instead of a big Sunday dinner to save money for the Nazi charity WHW), visiting the fair, Christmas trees and presents, playing outside in winter, a wedding, sailing on the Alster river, even a Volksempfänger or Nazi People’s Radio.
This is a rare, heavily color illustrated1940 Nazi schoolbook called Jung-Deutschland Fibel für den hansischen Lebensraum, which translates as “Young Germany Primer for Hanseatic Living Space”. The hardcover book was compiled by the Nationalsozialistischen Lehrerbund Gau Hamburg, the NSLB or National Socialist Teachers League of Nazi Party of Gau Hamburg under the leadership of Dr. Walter Schultze.
Dr. Schultze was a World War I veteran, Freikorps member and an early member of the Nazi Party, participated in the November 1923 Nazi Putsch in Munich and afterwards treated Hitler’s injuries at the house of Ernst Hanfstaengl. He held many high-ranking functions in the Nazi Party including in the NS Teacher’s League, Medical Doctor’s League and DRK, was a member of the SA and SS and participated in the organization of Aktion T4.

This 6-¼ x 9 inch hardcover Jung-Deutschland Fibel was published by Verlag Paul Hartung KG in Hamburg in 1940. Considering it was a school book, it is in nice used condition but please note, it has some pencil markings on some pages. The yellow linen spine is a bit dirty but in very good condition. The 85 year old Nazi school book has no odor.
