RARE 1940 HEAVILY COLOR ILLUSTRATED NAZI SCHOOL BOOK

The 6-1/4 x 9-7/8 inch, 96 page softcover book was produced to teach young German children the alphabet, letter combinations, counting and how to use words in a sentence. It is filled with color illustrations by Max Teschemacher. They depict young children playing on the streets in cities and in more rural settings, farm animals and pets, hunters with guns, Hitler Youth boys collecting money for WHW, mothers and children, travel by train and bus, marching HJ boys with drums, going to the zoo, marching soldiers, the post office, a trip to the circus, Adolf Hitler postage stamps on a letter to Oma, weather and seasons, children listening to a Volksempfänger or Nazi People’s Radio, etc.

This is a rare, heavily color illustrated Nazi schoolbook called Fibel für die deutsche Jugend or “Primer for the German Youth”. It was approved by the Reichserziehungsminister or Nazi State Education Minister on 3 September 1940.

There is a chapter about 20 April, the Führer’s birthday, and the National Socialist based content even teaches children how to write the well-known WHW charity propaganda slogan Ein Volk hilft sich selbst! (A Nation Helps Itself!).

Fibel für die deutsche Jugend was published for the Deutscher Schulverlag Berlin in 1940 by Verlag Ferdinand Hirt und W. Crüwell of Dortmund and Breslau. The title page has a stamp of the Hilfsbücherei Volksschule Obstfeld and it was book number Dg 39 in their library.

Considering it was a school book, it is in very nice used condition. Sone of the sage green linen spine cloth is missing from the top and bottom but there is no writing or scribbling on the pages. No odor.
