RARE 1940 COLOR ILLUSTRATED NAZI SCHOOL BOOK

This is a rare, heavily color illustrated Nazi schoolbook called Rhein-Ruhr Fibel, which translates as Rhine Ruhr Primer. This 7-1/8 x 9-3/4 inch 88-page hardcover school book was produced to teach young German children from the industrial Ruhr and Rhein areas of Germany the alphabet, letter combinations, counting and how to use words in a sentence using beautiful color illustrations by Else Wenz-Dietor. The text by Josef Urhahn is in Fraktur and in Sütterlin Schrift and is filled with subtle and not so subtle National Socialist content.

The well-done illustrations depict cheerful young children playing, pets and farm animals, hiking with Opa, proud HJ boys with a Hitler Youth flag, using the telephone, bathing, baked goods and candy, scooters with swastika pennants, marching soldiers, Santa Claus, the doll doctor, Luftwaffe planes, Christmas trees and toys, collecting clothes for the WHW charity collections, sledding, praying before bedtime, Jungvolk, going on a trip on the Reichsautobahn, staying at a youth hostel (with HJ flag), etc.

This book also has pages with local content such as the Leo Schlageter monument in Düsseldorf, the Schwebebahn or suspension railway in Wuppertal, and even the origins of black coal, appropriate for a Nazi school book from the coal producing industrial Ruhr area. There are riddles, poems, and children song lyrics.

This fine illustrated Nazi school book was printed and published by L. Schwann in the city of Düsseldorf. Christa Ulllrich was the original owner of this rare example of Rhein-Ruhr Fibel and her name is handwritten inside the front cover, both in Fraktur and Sütterlinschrift!

This 85+ year old school book Rhein-Ruhr Fibel was definitely used! The dark red linen spine is original but has tape repairs at the top and bottom. The Nazi primer has old German tape repairs on the title page as well as on pages 3 through 17. During this repair, pages 7-8 were inserted between pages 10-11. The content between pages 18 and 88 is in good used condition without repairs or writing. The book has no odor.
