We would be the first to acknowledge that we know practically northing about German stamps, or any postage stamps for that matter. We sell a lot of
postcards on our website and quite a few
commemorative sheets of Nazi stamps, but when it comes to the stamps themselves, we are pretty ignorant. They are a specialty all by themselves.
The big, beautiful Scott's single country album for postage stamps of Germany is certainly not a complete collection of German or Nazi era stamps, but it contains somebody's collection of over 600 German stamps broken down roughly as follows:
- there are about 130 German stamps from the period 1875 - 1932
- there are over 230 Nazi German stamps from the period 1933 - 1945
- there are over 230 German stamps and Occupation of Germany stamps from the period 1946 to the late 1950s.
Some sets of stamps, like the 1942 Nazi Franchise stamps, the 1942 Military Air Post and Parcel Post stamps, the
1943 Nazi Semi-Postal Military Stamps, the
1944 Nazi Semi-Postal Military Stamps, are complete (these 1943 and 1944 military stamp sets sell for $35 per set or more and are getting hard to find). There are many other complete or nearly complete pages or sets mounted in the book. Some of the individual stamps have rather high values in online stamp seller catalogs. The album itself without the stamps is worth a good deal of money!
We have no way to know if the 1945 Nazi Grossdeutsches Reich 12+38 SS and SA Semi-Postal Stamps are genuine or not, but we have no reason at this point to assume that they are fakes. They are printed in very much the same manner as the similar 1944 Grossdeutsches Reich 12+8 Semi-Postal Stamp, except that they are not perforated. If somebody can tell us a method of proving they either are genuine or not genuine, we would like to know.
Most of the 650 or so postage stamps in this album are attached with folded stamp hinges and some are loose in plastic bags, inserted between the pages on which they should be attached. A great place to start of you'd like to collect German or Third Reich stamps and a great value compared to buying individual stamps or stamp sets. Very good condition.
