Adolf Hitler, Reichstag 19. juli 1940
Generalfeldmarschall Walther von Brauchitsch
Über Schlachtfelder vorwärts! starts with a photo portrait of Adolf Hitler above a quote from his speech to parliament on 19 July 1940. This is followed by a full-page foreword by Generalfeldmarschall Walther von Brauchitsch and a striking full-page portrait of the Commander of the Germany Army by Arthur Ahrem.
Über Schlachtfelder vorwärts! Mit dem Siegreichen Heer durch Frankreich 1940 (Onwards Across the Battlefields - with the Victorious Army through France in 1940) was written by Oberstleutnant (and university professor) Dr. Kurt Hesse who was the head of Wehrmachtpropaganda of Army Group V, inside the OKW. It was published with the help of war correspondents to give readers at home in Germany a realistic impression of “the war we did not want” in Belgium and France, and the experiences of infantry, tank, engineer, artillery and reconnaissance troops during their invasion and speedy victory

There is also a photo of Adolf Hitler visiting the front with Field Marshal Wilhelm Keitel as well as an illustration by Wolf Willrich of Nazi tank commander Oberst Karl Rothenburg with skull and cross bone insignia on his collar and wearing Pour le Mérite and Knights Cross medals.
Mixed in the text are photos of Wehrmacht troops with bicycles crossing the Albert Channel near Eben-Emael, marching infantry troops, troops with rubber assault boats and motorcycles, Nazi tanks and artillery guns, destroyed cities and railroad bridges, German soldier graves, Wehrmacht radio troops, French surrender and black French POWs.

Shown left is a second Third Reich example of Über Schlachtfelder vorwärts! Mit dem Siegreichen Heer durch Frankreich 1940 (Onwards Across the Battlefields - with the Victorious Army through France in 1940) by Oberstleutnant Dr. Kurt Hesse. It is from the 51 - 100.000 printing published by Wilhelm Limpert Verlag in Berlin in 1940.

Unfortunately the map supplement is missing and the book does not come with a dust jacket. However, it is in nice used condition, no odor.

This book comes with the rare - and frequently missing - Kartenwerk or 48-page two-color map supplement with 46 full-page maps showing the front lines during the ‘victorious battle of the west” between 10 May and the evening of 24 June 1940.

This 5 x 8 inch, 320-page linen hardcover example of Über Schlachtfelder vorwärts! is from the 101 - 150.000 printing published by Wilhelm Limpert Verlag in Berlin in 1940. It comes with its original color dust jacket which shows wear (see photo at the top of this USMBOOKS web page).

A previous owner tore out the front flyleaf, propably because it had a name or dedication written on it. Both the book and map supplement are in very nice, little-used condition. No odor.

Also for sale on USMBOOKS.com, the unusual 1942 Nazi book Fame and Fall of the Maginot Line, as well as a fine Nazi unit history / invasion of France. Don't miss Allied Intrigue in the Low Countries, an English language German Foreign Office book justifying the invasion of the West.
