German Cavalry General and Pour Le Mérite recipient Eugen von Falkenhayn died on 3 January 1934 in Adolf Hitler's Third Reich Berlin.
Offered on this USMBOOKS web page is an actual authentic example of the rare original 175 x 250 mm (approximately 6-5/8 x 8-7/8 inch) black-bordered formal family announcement of the death of General von Falkenhayn. His ancient German family included nobility and many famous names!
Eugen von Falkenhayn's brother was Prussian War Minister, Pour Le Mérite recipient and well-known General Erich von Falkenhayn, and his daughter was Auguste-Viktoria Countess von Bismarck Bohlen on this rare death notification. Erich von Falkenhayn had another daughter, Erika, who married Henning von Tresckow in 1926. Von Tresckow was a German Army General (Generalmajor and Chief of Staff of the 2nd Army), who was one of the leaders of the 20 July 1944 plot to kill Adolf Hitler (famous actor Kenneth Branagh played him in the highly-acclaimed 2008 movie Valkyrie). Eugen von Falkenhayn's sister Olga was the mother of Fieldmarshal Fedor von Bock and his granddaughter Maria von Quistorp was the wife of famous Nazi rocket pioneer Wernher von Braun.
The funeral ceremony for General Eugen von Falkenhayn took place at the famous Kaiser Friedrich Gedächtniskirche (Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church) still in iconic ruins on the Kurfürstendamm in the center of Berlin. Our reference photo on the right right shows his grave. Interestingly, Eugen von Falkenhayn's wife Louise (Baroness von Dörnberg by birth), died in 1939 but is not part of the family grave, but his von Bismarck Bohlen daughter and granddaughter are.
An extremely rare piece of historical Third Reich German ephemera in very nice original condition. When time permits, do google the Von Falkenhayn family to read their fascinating history!
In September 1914, Eugen von Falkenhayn (shown in the reference photo right) became commanding general of the XXII Reserve Corps which participated in the Battle of Flandres and in the Battle of Gorlice-Tarnów and in Serbia. In 1916 the XXII. Reserve-Korps (XXII RK) was deployed at the Battle of Verdun and sent to the Eastern Front to counter the Brusilov Offensive. It returned to Germany in November 1918 and Eugen von Falkenhayn retired on 30 June 1919.
The reference photo above shows Generalmajor Henning von Tresckow, the
husband of Eugen von Falkenhayn's niece Erika.
The reference photo above shows Nazi rocket pioneer Wernher von Braun, the husband of Eugen von Falkenhayn's granddaughter Maria von Quistorp.
