This is a huge 4+ pound very comprehensive Third Reich book with superb photo content not found in most other Nazi era publications! Großdeutschland! by Hans Lerch was published in 1940 to showcase Adolf Hitler's 'new and improved' Greater Germany. It is a recap of all that was achieved since the great Freiheitskampf, the successful National Socialist 'battle for freedom' of the late 1920s and early 1930s.

There are substantial chapters about the German economic wonder, the reorganization of the Army, Navy and Air Force, the rebirth of German cultural life, the German Autobahn or freeway system, the Volkswagen, the return of the industrial Saar region, reunification of Austria, Sudetenland, Danzig and Memel with Nazi Germany, the important alliance between Mussolini's Italy and Nazi Germany, the Condor Legion in Spain, German colonies in Africa, the Polish Corridor and Danzig, the Westwall and Organisation Todt, the Non-Aggression Pact with the Soviet Union (including the text of the agreement), the invasion of Poland, etc.

The portraits we show on this USMBOOKS web page are all large, full-page photo on glossy art paper in the book Großdeutschland! and include Adolf Hitler, Reichsmarschall Hermann Göring, Generalfeldmarschall Walther von Brauchitsch, Admiral Erich Raeder, Il Duce Benito Mussolini and Italian Foreign Minister Count Galeazzo Ciano, Gauleiter Josef Bürckel, Reichsminister Dr. Artur Seyss-Inquart in his SS uniform, leading Sudeten German politician Konrad Henlein, Reichsprotektor Freiherr von Neurath in his fancy uniform, Foreign Minister Joachim von Ribbentrop, but also pictured are lesser known Nazi officials such as the Gauleiter of Danzig Albert Forster and Dr. Ernst Neumann (Memelland).

There are full-page reproductions of watercolor paintings of Prague Castle and the famous Charles Bridge beneath it, castle ruins above the Danube in the Wachau, Danzig as well as tables with statistics about the decrease of unemployment and the increase of the birth rate in Hitler's Greater Germany.

On the front fly leaf is a beautifully printed tipped-in patriotic dedication from Vienna dated Kriegsweihnacht or War Christmas 1941 (shown below).

Published and printed by Zwinger Verlag of Dresden in 1940, this 8-¾ x 11 inches, 364 page example of Großdeutschland! is complete and in very nice used condition, with gold blocking on the cover and spine, and red faux leather corners. Like the few other examples of this 4+ pound 1-½ inch thick hardcover book we have owned and sold before, the binding is split (but NOT loose) in some places as a result of its size and weight. The gold blocking on the embossed linen spine of this 79 year old example of Großdeutschland! is also a bit faded. No musty odor.
